KINGSTON, Jamaica - Reigning Horse of the Year, the Anthony Pearson trained Will In Charge hits the racetrack for his first competitive effort in 2019.
Will In Charge races in the 6-furlong (1,200 metres) Lady Geeta Trophy in tomorrow’s (Saturday, April 20) fifth race where he faces long-time rival, She’s A Maneater and five other top-class campaigners.
Here is Quickgallop.com’s assessment of the race based on the draw position.
1 – SHE’S A MANEATER - Already has a victory in her only start this year over 51/2 furlongs when she defeated sprint champion Chace The Great. She’s A Maneater is going to be more at home with the extra half-a-furlong of this race and having galloped 5 ½ furlongs in 1:06.3 on Saturday last, she has a good chance of making it two from two in 2019.
2 – WILL IN CHARGE - Not really a sprinter but packs sufficient class to win over any distance he chooses. Will In Charge showed he is still on top of his game even though he has not raced since December 1, 2018 when he won the Diamond Mile, galloping a fast 1:05.1 for 5 ½ furlongs on Sunday, April 14. Based on how this race is expected to be run, Will In Charge is going to be just off the pace more than likely to be set by Chace The Great before making a move three furlongs out and if he hits the front is going to be very hard to tag. Jockey Robert Halledeen, despite his showboating antics in the Diamond Mile, has retained the ride.
3 – PERFECT NEIGHBOUR – this oldster is out of his league
4 – CHACE THE GREAT – The handicaps are not on his side as he carries the same weight (112 lb) as he did when beaten three lengths by, She’s A Maneater over 5 ½ furlongs on March 23, while She’s A Maneater carries the same weight. Difficult to see Chace The Great winning this one.
5 – ANOTHER BULLET – Has really improved in recent times and is as tough as nails but has found it a bit testing at the top level. This race could change that tide as he is ideally suited by the trip and if the pace is too hot as is expected then Another Bullet has a real good shot.
6 – MONEY MAGNET – Comes into the Lady Geeta with two wins already under her girth this season. This filly is fighting fit, talented and has a never say die attitude. Expect her to be just behind the leaders before making her winning bid from the top of the straight.
7 – CAMPESINO – An oldster who cannot deal with these.
