KINGSTON, Jamaica – The fifth race on Saturday, February 10, 2024, is the annual renewal of the Mercury Sprint.

The Mercury Sprint is for three-year-old colts and geldings coming down the five-straight chute.

The Quick Galloper’s assessment of the seven starters entered is provided below.

1 – CHIEF DISSIDENT is a three-year-old bay colt (January 21) by Casual Trick out of Revolving Beauty, trained by Patrick Lynch with Youville Pinnock aboard. Note, Chief Dissident races with the blinkers on and first-time Lasix. From his two career starts to date, Chief Dissident has not shown much. That trend, even with the change of equipment and first-time Lasix is expected to continue.

2 – WARRIORSTOMP is a three-year-old bay colt (March 21) by Savoy Stomp out of Cup O Tea, trained by Alfred Davidson with Roger Hewitt slated to ride. Note, Warriorstomp races with the figure eight on. The most experienced of this lot with five outings already under his belt. Warriorstomp in his last two efforts demonstrated progress which should aid his cause of trying to win this one.

3 - D BAY MACHINE is a three-year-old chestnut colt (March 3) by Tapilu out of Lady Elaine, trained by Jason DaCosta with Reyan Lewis down to ride. Morning reports suggest that D Bay Machine is progressing and in time will get off the mark in quick time. Has to be respected.

4 - PAPPIE DON is a three-year-old bay colt (January 20) by Sensational Slam out of Sparkling Michaela, trained by Saqlain Roman with Daniel Thompson in the saddle. Has been moving well at exercise, with a good first effort anticipated.

5 – BOLD SHADOW is a three-year-old bay colt (March 25) by Sunshine N Shadow out of Charming Beauty, trained by Patrick Lynch with Tevin Foster riding. Note, Bold Shadow races with the blinkers on and first-time Lasix. Has been at the races twice without been able to generate much interest. A place on the board is the best possible option for Bold Shadow.

6 - THE GENERAL is a three-year-old bay colt (May 12) by Northern Giant out of Mama Blossom, trained by Gary Subratie with Dane Dawkins riding. The General is said to be one to note by early morning onlookers. Many expect a capital run the first time out.

7 - TEFLON DON is a three-year-old bay colt (May 13) by Casual Trick out of The Lady Scored, trained by Jason DaCosta with Robert Halledeen holding the reins. This bay colt has been well-prepared for his opening run and has already displayed signs of being at minimum above average.
