KINGSTON, Jamaica - A competitive field of 11 runners is set to contest the 2024 Kenneth Mattis Trophy, a three-year-old and upward Overnight Allowance event going nine furlongs and 25 yards on Sunday, September 8, 2024.
The Quick Galloper analysis of the 11 starters is published alone.
- D HEAD CORNERSTONE - Has been struggling in recent performances and is not expected to get close in this one.
- ANTARCTICA - Following a surprise win on August 17, Antarctica has reached the Overnight level. Needs time.
- GRECIAN LIGHT - Finished second by 2 ½ behind Fearless Soul over 6 furlongs (on August 17. Grecian Light tries two turns (nine furlongs and 25 yards) for the first occasion, with 7 ½ furlongs her longest trip to date. She has quickly caught the pace of Overnight Allowance, and her proven consistency will hold her in good stead for a crack at this trophy event.
- PROVOCATIVA – After a disappointing eighth-place finish last week, Provocativa has to pull up her socks to even earn a place on the board.
- SPIRIT OF LIGHT - Making his debut on local soil, Spirit of Light has been training well with onlookers reporting that Spirit of Light is of worth. Given that Spirit of Light is competing for the first time on local soil, at nine furlongs and 25 yards, he will have to make every step right.
- SISTREN TREASURE – Consistently running good races, Sistren Treasure should put in another solid effort.
- SUPER ALEX - While doing well to reach this level, a winning run seems unlikely for Super Alex.
- POWER FROM ABOVE – Finished a fighting second behind Money Miser over one mile on August 31. Power From Above will enjoy this extended trip and as usual will be motoring in the final two furlongs. For her to be successful, Power From Above must get closer to the front runners for her late kick to be fully effective.
- RAINSVILLE – Cannot be recommended on current form.
- SONNY T AND CHIPPY – has displayed in and out form in Overnight Allowance. Sonny T and Chippy will likely be left behind.
- KWAKU– Has no realistic chance of winning.
