KINGSTON, Jamaica - The running of the $1.1-million Monday Morning Trophy for native-bred three-year-olds (non-winners of two) and imported three-year-olds and upward (maiden) over 7 furlong (1,400m), is listed as the main event on Sunday’s nine-card.
The Quick Galloper’s analysis is provided below.
- GLOBAL MACHINE is a chestnut colt by Hedge Fund out of Springtime Rain, trained by Carlton Cunningham with Omar Walker riding. Finished fourth behind Fearless Attack, Battle Angel, and Lady Lauren over 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m) on April 28. Note that Global Machine races with the figure-8 on. Although the distance has increased, Global Machine is expected to run well, especially as he has already experienced this grade before.
- CALIFORNIA CROWN is a chestnut colt by Hedge Fund out of Dream Big, trained by Jason DaCosta with Robert Halledeen aboard. Was an impressive winner on debut 22 days ago, putting away rivals by 3 ½ at 5 ½ furlongs in 1:09.3. With improvement expected and working well, the highly-rated California Crown should win again but will have to put every hoof right.
- BUTTERCUP is a bay filly (February 2) by Conquest Cherimash out of Shahar, trained by Richard Azan with Delroy Beharie holding the reins. Has been struggling to find form and that should continue here. Note that Buttercup races with the blinkers on. Did not do well on May 4, when she finished a disappointing eighth, 20 lengths behind winner Run Julie Run. This field is more in keeping with Buttercup’s talent, and should not be left out of the reckoning.
- CHESNEY is a chestnut filly by Solomini out of El Coyote, trained by Steven Todd with Paul Francis in the saddle. Note that Chesney races with the visor on. Showed a glimpse of form when racing over the two turns of nine furlongs and 25 yards on April 27. Chesney should find seven much to his liking and play a part in the outcome.
- LADY LAUREN is a bay filly by Deputy Glitters out of Anna, trained by Steven Todd with Tevin Foster the designated jockey. Capable runner who came home in third place by 1 ½ lengths behind Fearless Attack and Battle Angel over 6 ½ furlongs. Lady Lauren was seen making strong headway in deep stretch and so the extended half-furlong for this race should suit here well. Expect another bold bid from Lady Lauren.
- AMMA is a bay filly by Bern Identity out of Blufield, trained by Ian Parsard with Josue Osorio riding. Was expected to figure in the Thornbird Stakes over 7 furlongs on April 13 but failed to land a blow. Amma finished in 10th position by 11 lengths behind Banadura. Amma has been working fairly well coming into this race and as such, an improved effort is expected from her.
- BOLD MOVE is a bay colt by Sunshine N Shadow out of Money Move, trained by Gary Subratie with Raddesh Roman aboard. Released the maiden tag over 5 ½ furlongs on May 11. Bold Move steps up to compete and based on that impressive 5 ¼-length win, he should not be disgraced.
- PLAYFAIR is a bay colt by Sensational Slam out of I Am The One, trained by Anthony Nunes with Reyan Lewis holding the reins. Has not really done anything since his maiden win over 4 furlongs (800m) on January 1. Playfair is of ability and among these; he should put in a good performance.
- UNCLE PECK (USA March 31) by Producer out of Phantara, trained by Dale Murphy with Richard Henry holding the reins. Makes his debut on local soil. Uncle Peck has been training well and as such, should run accordingly.
- DON’T TELL LOU LOU is a bay filly (May 8) by Savoy Stomp out of Lastochka, trained by Howard Bailey with Matthew Bennett riding. Is going to be left behind in this one.
- RICHES TO RAGS (USA April 21) is a chestnut filly by Union Rags out of Place des Vosges, trained by Phillip Feanny with Shane Richardson aboard. Has faced the starter on seven occasions without a victory. However, Riches to Rags has not finished worst that fourth in those seven outings and is expected to go home in the money once again. Note that Riches To Rags races with the tongue-tie and figure eight on.
