KINGSTON, Jamaica – Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Caymanas Park will long be remembered as the day when the upsetters prevailed.
Of the ten races contested only one favourite obliged and that was the 3-5 on Sonny T And Chippy in the eighth race.
The winner of the seventh Bunksy Boy proved to be the tail spinner at searing odds of 86-1, paying all of $4385 for the minimum $50 win ticket. The exacta with the 4-1 Wright In Flight rewarded backers handsomely with a $94,415.00 payout.
The tailspin produced by Bunksy Boy was felt far and wide and was the main precursor for increasing the number of carryovers going in the Sunday programme of July 10.
Before the mayhem created by Bunksy Boy, punters went through a horrid period from the first event.
The first race winner Sweet Medicine started at 2-1 with the 6-5 favourite Mamasharondarling finishing fourth.
In the second Emperorofthecats at 7-2 brushed aside the 2-5 odds on favourite foreigner Madelyn’s Sunshine, the eventual third-place finisher. This result in effect killed most of the Reggae 6 players.
In the third, Expeditious was the clear victor at odds of 10-1. The 6-5 favourite Better Best was five lengths behind Expeditious in second place.
Jockey Samantha Fletcher then entered the fray in the fourth with a come-from-behind win on Persistent One (6-1), while the 3-2 favourite in the field of six starters Awesome Boy ended in last place.
Uncle Frank, a veteran of the track further disrupted the form winning at odds of 10-1 in the fifth, with 3-5 favourite Amy The Butcher filling the second slot.
The final hurdle in the Reggae 6 exotic wager, the sixth, ended with Vanquisher getting home at odds of 5-1.  After all the favourites in the Reggae 6 were unable to find the winning post in front, it was little wonder that there was a carryover of more than $6 million going to the Sunday race day.
Following the rare occurrence of no one winning the Reggae 6, Bunksy Boy came along, and then the loner Sonny T And Chippy.
In the last two races, the ninth and tenth, Silent Cat won at 6-1, and then it was Buzz City Light at 5-1, to complete a harassing day for bettors.
