KINGSTON, Jamaica – The 2000 Guineas, 2023, is scheduled for next Sunday, June 4, 2023, at Caymanas Park.

The Quick Galloper takes a look at the result of the 2022 version of this one-mile event for three-year-old colts and geldings at a mile, to see the progress or lack of progress, of the 12 participants.

FIRST: BLUE VINYL – after winning the 2000 Guineas went on to double Classic success with a sparkling victory in the 10-furlong Jamaica St Leger beating what was to become his nemesis, the filly Atomica. Blue Vinyl faltered in the 12-furlong Jamaica Derby finishing third behind Atomica and Brinks. At four, Blue Vinyl has raced three times winning twice, and is now campaigning in Open Allowance.

SECOND: BRINKS – regarded as the third best of his three-year-old campaign. After finishing a fighting second in the Derby, Brinks went on to win the Winston Griffiths Cup, and a victory in three-year-old non-winners of four to qualify in the Overnight Allowance category.  Brinks has raced four times in Overnight without another tick in the win column.

THIRD: EMPEROROFTHECATS – although not winning a Classic event, this gelding is only one of two from his three-year-old cohort to reach and win in the Open Allowance grade. Emperorofthecats’ eighth career victory from 18 starts was achieved on Saturday, May 27, beating the likes of Runaway Algo, God of Love, and Madelyn’s Sunshine. A credit to his owner, trainer, and breeder, Carl Anderson.

FOURTH: MORIMOTO -  has been bedevilled by injuries throughout his career. Morimoto has gone through his age group conditions to reach Overnight  Allowance. He has not raced in that category as yet, making a return to morning exercise only recently trying to catch up on lost time.

FIFTH: RUM PUNCHER – still trying to go through his age conditions.

SIXTH: POWER – is still around, putting a good performance every now and then.

SEVENTH: PERFECT BREW – has a race record of five wins from 22 starts. Perfect Brew is one of a few from his three-year-old grouping to reach Open Allowance by virtue of not winning one of the Classic races.

EIGHTH – YELLOWSTONE – has done remarkably well to reach Open Allowance. Finished second behind Emperorofthecats on May 27, coming down the five straight course. This chestnut gelding will hold his hold own and will find success in Open Allowance.

NINTH: THE CITADEL – after and enterprising starts two wins from two starts, has not been able to live up to early expectations.

TENTH: NOMOREDEALS – still hanging around with nothing much to show for her efforts.

ELEVENTH: UNRULY DUDE – nothing much to report here.

TWELFTH: KP CHOICE – is still plodding around.
