She’s A Wonder the winner
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The 2022 edition of the fillies only Thornbird Stakes takes place this Saturday (April 2) at Caymanas Park. Run over seven furlongs, the Thornbird Stakes is one of the primary events leading to the start of this season's Classic races.
THE QUICK GALLOPER reminds its readers of the 2021 Thornbird Stakes and looks at how the ten starters in this particular renewal have progressed in their racing careers. This analysis is done in the order of finish.
FIRST – She’s A Wonder - After winning the 2021 Thornbird Stakes, She’s A Wonder went on to even greater glory for her rider Reyan Lewis and trainer Ian Parsard. She’s A Wonder by Bern Identity out of Jamaican Dream won the one-mile 1000 Guineas, and the 10-furlong Jamaica Oaks, two of the five Classic races for three-year-olds. She’s A Wonder has one win in Open Allowance, but has not raced, yet, in 2022, as she is nursing an injury.
SECOND – Action Ann - Since her second-place finish in the Thornbird, Action Ann has been troubled by injuries with the filly not able to perform as expected. In her present four-year-old campaign, Action Ann has changed stables and has once again started to demonstrate her worth with two wins in quick time to reach the level of Overnight Allowance.
THIRD – Sensational Ending – This filly did well to hit the board in the 2021 Thornbird Stakes. Afterward, Sensational Ending has been hampered by injuries and was away from competitive racing for a long while. She returned to the track as a four-year-old just three weeks ago and won on her reappearance at the four-year-old non-winners of two grade. Quickly after that returning victory, Sensational Ending raced again and was unsuccessful.
FOURTH – Hoist The Mast – Was not able to build on neither her two or three-year-old efforts. Hoist The Mast is now on the breeding farm and was serviced by Savoy Stomp.
FIFTH – Three Times Lucky – Was never in the Classic mix with her peers, and is now in the claiming ranks.
SIXTH – Amy The Butcher – This filly produced some good efforts after the Thornbird but seemingly has been hit by injuries.
SEVENTH – Magenta – Has been turned out.
EIGHTH – Katalina – Katalina is still on the track but has done nothing of significance.
NINTH – Sure Curlin – Has been beset with injuries and is rarely on the track these days but is still in training.
TENTH – Fighting Cowgirl –Nothing has been seen or heard from this filly.
