KINGSTON, Jamaica – Quickgallop.com turns back the hands of time to look and analyse the final placings in the 2022 edition of the 10-furlong Jamaica St Leger.
This is being done to assess the progress or lack thereof made by the 13 starters in St Leger 2022.
SPLITS: 23.4, 49.2, 1:13.4, 1:39.4 FINAL TIME 2:07.2
FIRST: BLUE VINYL – Blue Vinyl delivered probably the best performance of his career to win the St Leger beating his Classic nemesis, the filly Atomica. Since winning the St Leger, Blue Vinyl was beaten by Atomica in the Derby and failed in the latter part of his three-year-old season to deal with the older horses. As a four-year-old, Blue Vinyl, who is known to have some issues, has already gone through Overnight Allowance but is yet to establish himself in the higher classes.
SECOND: ATOMICA – After a rough passage in the early part of the St Leger, Atomica succumbed to the brilliance on the day of Blue Vinyl, losing by 4 ½ lengths. Atomica then conquered all in the Derby with a performance for the ages. After the Derby, Atomica sparkled against the older horses, winning the Jamaica Cup. She was, however, underwhelming in the Mouttet Mile, while at four, Atomica had a terrible start, losing on her first attempt. The Atomica of old reemerged shortly after, to have a record of one win from two starts thus far at four.
THIRD: BRINKS – Brinks proved to be the consistent one during his three-year-old Classic season but has yet to show significant improvement since the St Leger, even after winning the Winston Griffiths. Muck more is expected from Brinks.
FOURTH: D HEAD CORNERSTONE – He has progressed to the Overnight Allowance level, yet the move to the grades above is still pending, and truth be told, that progression does not seem likely in the near future.
FIFTH: MORIMOTO – Morimoto has had some major setbacks, which have significantly hampered his racing career. Morimoto has not raced in a long while, but the good news is that Morimoto is again present on the track in the mornings.
SIXTH: RAINSVILLE – Still trying to ping through his conditions.
SEVENTH: SUNSET SILHOUTTE – This filly has now completed her conditions and is now qualified to race in Overnight Allowance.
EIGHTH: POWER – Power is hanging around, without ruffling any features.
NINTH: EMPEROROFTHECATS – Emperorofthecats has been a revelation. After trying the longer distances, the connections of Emperorofthecats then decided to stick more to the shorter races, allowing Emperorofthecats to thrive. Emperorofthecats has gone through to Overnight Allowance and has already scored in Open Allowance. A credit to his connections.
TENTH: RORAIMA – Has not been active since the St Leger.
ELEVENTH: OUTBIDDER – This filly has finally made it to Overnight Allowance. It has been a tedious march for Outbidder, who seems to have reached her limit.
TWELFTH: SLAM – Nothing to report on this one.
THIRTEENTH: BERNING RED - Nothing to report on this one.
