A double for trainer Spencer Chung
KINGSTON, Jamaica – After a long delay to the start of the Caymanas Sunday (March 13) third due to technical glitches, Race Car marked his return from an injury period of approximately 18 months with a close win at the Overnight Allowance level going five furlongs round.
While the seven horses entered were waiting without their riders off, Loose Ball was declared a late non-starter by the duty veterinarian at the gates. When the event got underway the intentions of Acero (Matthew Bennett) were made clear as the chestnut colt sped off by three to four lengths followed by Casual Affair (Aaron Chatrie), with Race Car (Dane Nelson), the prohibitive 1-9 favourite, racing close to the back of the field about six to seven lengths adrift.
Acero continued to blaze the trail with Nelson pushing Race Car forward, as the horses reached the final part of the bend.
In the straight, the motor of Race Car was now fully turned on, as Acero started to shorten, with Sweet N Smart (Dane Dawkins) making noticeable headway but going wide towards the outside rails.
In a fierce duel, Race Car got the nod by a neck over Sweet N Smart with Acero third.
This was the second winner on the day for trainer Spencer Chung, and the fifth from seven starts for Race Car.
