One – two finish for champion trainer
KINGSTON. Jamaica – Leading rider, the red hot Dane Dawkins displayed the patient side of his armoury to earn victory number three from 21 starts for the Anthony Nunes trained Santorini in the Caymanas Sunday (Feb 20) second.
Dawkins watched in third or fourth place as Daddy Jones (Anthony Thomas), and stablemate Bern Identity (Tevin Foster) jostled for the lead advantage in this four-year-old and upwards (non-winners of four) event run over a mile.
The two leaders traded blows with both entering the straight close by, and with Classical Orb (Omar Walker) on the outside moving down to make his challenge.
Dawkins then produced Santotini in mid-track between horses and the four-year-old chestnut gelding quickly dispatched rivals to win by 2 ½ lengths in a final time of 1:39.4.
Bern Notice was second, making it a one-two finish for Nunes, with Classical Orb third.
