KINGSTON, Jamaica - It could not have been better for visiting jockey from Panama, Victor Sanchez.

Sanchez had three mounts on Saturday, and on his first, he entered the winners’ enclosure.

Holding the reins atop the Jason DaCosta-trained Rosetta in the second event of ten, a non-two for locally bred three-year-olds, and a maiden for foreign bred three-year-olds, Sanchez displayed that he is a fighter, who is not afraid to use his whip, and use it he did.

Rosetta battled for the lead in the early stages of the one-mile call with Buttercup (Raddesh Roman). Leaving the five-furlong marker, Sanchez allowed Rosetta to set the splits, entering the straight with a slight advantage.

In a ding-dong tussle with Titan Tempo (Tevin Foster) and Brenda Boy (Oneil Mullings), Sanchez was noticed changing whip hand several times, while regularly employing the whip in whichever hand it was placed.

The young man was adamant that he would win, and he fought hard in the saddle in a clear demonstration of his toughest, which not even the late surge of Brenda Boy could halt.

It was an exciting start for Sanchez, but his connections need to quickly convey to him the local rules regarding the use of the whip, as clearly, he has no clue.

Exciting times are ahead with this young Panamanian.
