KINGSTON, Jamaica – After a promising two-year-old career and seven non-eventful starts at three, Perfect Brew seems to have overcome his issues winning for the second time in succession. This latest victory came in the Caymanas Saturday fourth, a three-year-old and upwards (non-winners of four) call at 7 ½ furlongs.
With Anthony Thomas again in the saddle for trainer Richard Azan, Perfect Brew, racing a class above his natural grade, was settled behind the pace set by his stablemate Power Ranking (Javaniel Patterson, with even money favourite Golden Wattle (Tevin Foster) following.
The order remained unchanged for most of the way, with Perfect Brew and Golden Wattle getting closer. Entering the straight, those three horses were across the track, Power Ranking on the inside, Golden Wattle in the middle and Perfect Brew on the outside.
The challenge of Golden Wattle quickly dissipated, leaving Perfect Brew and Power Ranking to settle the issue. Perfect Brew under superb handing by Thomas got up in the the final strides to deny his stable company. Golden Wattle finished third.
