#US RACING: ZANDON IS TAKEN OUT OF THE PREAKNESS STAKES

Zandon, who finished third in the Kentucky Derby, was the latest horse to be ruled out of next Saturday's Preakness Stakes, according to what his owner said in a newspaper report Friday.

This followed Thursday's latest surprise from Rich Strike, whose owner said the Derby winner would not be going to Baltimore. The 80-1 shot at Churchill Downs will have rest and recovery time before pointing to the Belmont Stakes, according to a statement from Rick Dawson.

Here is an updated review of who is expected for the second leg of the Triple Crown and who is still a maybe. Entries will be drawn Monday afternoon.

GOING

Epicenter. Winchell Thoroughbreds racing manager David Fiske confirmed Wednesday that the Kentucky Derby runner-up would enter the Preakness.

Secret Oath. Trainer D. Wayne Lukas confirmed Wednesday that the Kentucky Oaks winner would take another shot at the boys. Before her Oaks win, she finished third in the Arkansas Derby (G1).

Early Voting. With a win in the Withers (G3) and runner-up in the Wood (G2), he qualified for the Derby, but Chad Brown was pointing him to the Preakness all along. Jose Ortiz will ride.

Simplification. Fourth in the Kentucky Derby, he arrived at Pimlico on Tuesday.

Skippylongstocking. The third-place finisher in the Wood Memorial was scheduled to breeze at Gulfstream and then ship to Pimlico for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.

Un Ojo. The Rebel Stakes (G2) winner was forced to miss the Kentucky Derby because of a minor foot bruise. A work at Churchill Downs was planned for Saturday.

Creative Minister. Trainer Kenny McPeek decided to enter him off a strong allowance win at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Derby day. After losing his first start in March by a neck, he broke his maiden last month. Brian Hernandez Jr., who has been aboard for all three starts, will have the mount again.

MAYBE

Happy Jack. Third in the San Felipe (G2) and Santa Anita Derby (G1), he was 14th in the Kentucky Derby after having gate trouble. Doug O'Neill had planned to bypass the Preakness, but Happy Jack is now back in the mix, the trainer confirmed Thursday.

Shake Em Loose. He had won 4 of 5 before finishing third in the Federico Tesio, a Preakness prep. Might go instead to the James W. Murphy turf mile on the undercard.

Rattle N Roll. A Maryland racing official said the office was notified that McPeek did not plan to ship Rattle N Roll to Pimlico, barring any unforeseen changes. But he told Horse Racing Nation that he make a decision about the colt after a Saturday breeze. Rattle N Roll was sixth in the Blue Grass (G1) and hasn't won since the Breeders' Futurity (G1) last year.

NOT GOING

Rich Strike. No Triple Crown winner this year.

Zandon. Owner Jeff Drown told the Star Tribune of Minneapolis on Thursday that the Preakness and Belmont Stakes are out for the colt trained by Chad Brown. Drown said he is targeting the Travers (G1) in August at Saratoga.

Ethereal Road. Lukas said that he would bypass the Preakness and start instead in the Sir Barton at 1 1/16 miles on the undercard.

Smile Happy. As reported earlier, McPeek said he's getting "getting a little bit of a workup," and the trainer will back off of him for a bit. He was 12th in the Kentucky Derby after finishing second in the Blue Grass.

The first- and second-place finishers in the Tesio also are not expected. The winner Joe is going to the James W. Murphy, and Mr Jefferson is pointed to the Sir Barton.
