Danny Hamilton, the clerk of scales at Presque Isle Downs, has been suspended for 30 days for the negligent failure to weigh out all of the jockeys before the eighth race on Oct. 11.
Hamilton has been assigned a suspension from Jan. 8 through Feb. 6, during which he will not be able to enter the grounds of any racetrack in Pennsylvania. The commission did note that he has a ten-day window to appeal the suspension. The ruling, released Dec. 19 by the Pennsylvania Horse Racing Commission, was reported late Thursday by Molly Rollins at BloodHorse.
Among the responsibilities of a clerk of scales is to weigh jockeys out before each race and in after each race, to ensure that the weight was correct and report any discrepancies to the stewards.
Currently Hamilton serves as a placing judge and entry clerk at Fair Grounds. Like Presque Isle Downs, Fair Grounds is also owned by Churchill Downs Incorporated.
