Unusual Distance Makes Finding A Winner Difficult – Sat, July 8, Sixth

Power From Above
Power From Above

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The sixth race on the Saturday card of July 8, 2023, is to be decided over the rarely offered distance of nine and a half furlongs.

The event is for three-year-old maidens.

The Quick Galloper’s analysis is given below in order of the draw.

1 – MANOUSHE is a grey colt (April 18) by Spieth out of Regency, trained by Richard Azan with Jawara Steadman in the saddle. Tried nine furlongs and 25 yards on last, finishing seven lengths behind Rhythm Buzz and Antarctica. Manoushe returns from a break of 111 days and may need the outing to get to his fighting best.

2 – RICHIE RICH is a chestnut colt (January 31) by Soul Warrior out of Red Gold, trained by Jason DaCosta with Reyan Lewis aboard. Note, Richie Rich races with the blinkers off, and the visor and tongue tie on. Although showing the tendency of being able to handle longer distances, Richie Rich races for the first time longer than 7 ½ furlongs. This chestnut colt is a consistent sort and that may be enough for him to earn and earn well.

3 – MONEY BOX is a bay colt (April 22) by Soul Warrior out of Trinket Box, trained by Gary Subratie with Sadiki Blake in the saddle. Note, Money Box races with the blinkers and tongue tie on. This half-brother to Calculus is slowly trying to find his way.

4 – UNCHARTER is a bay colt (February 15) by Hedge Fund out of Little Gidding, trained by Jason DaCosta with Phillip Parchment aboard. A major disappointment thus far in his career. Uncharter has no form to recommend him, so it is difficult seeing a victory by this bay colt.

5 – POWER FROM ABOVE is a chestnut filly (February 25) by Key To Power out of Blufield, trained by Anthony Nunes with Tevin Foster in the saddle. This half-sister to Classic winner Blue Vinyl has raced twice and has placed on both occasions. Power From Above has travelled 4 ½ and 7 furlongs making 9 ½ furlongs a hard task. She has nothing to fear in this one, plus she is at the stage of rapid improvement.

6 – WATERMAN JOHN is a bay colt (February 7) by Sensational Slam out of Giacomo’s Pride, trained by Fitzgerald Richards with Oshane Nugent aboard. Note, Waterman John races with the visor and figure 8 off, and the blinkers on. Slowly coming along and will learn.

7 – HOME ALONE is a bay colt (May 21) by Soul Warrior out of Nuclear Princess, trained by Michael Cain Jr, with Shamaree Muir in the saddle. Note, Home Alone races with the cheekpieces on. The distance seems to be a fit but his form does not draw any confidence.

8 – STEIN is a bay colt (April 20) by Bern Identity out of Ruby Rose, trained by Gary Subratie with Dane Dawkins aboard. Note, Stein races with the visor off, and the blinkers and tongue tie on. Coming along really well, while showing a strong tendency to be at his best in the latter part of his last two starts. Stein is poised for another sterling effort.

9 – SWEET VICTORY is a grey filly (April 18) by Spieth out of Bitter End, trained by Howard Jaghai with Roger Hewitt in the saddle. Still learning her craft.

10 – MR SENATOR is a roan colt (May 1) by Natural Selection out of Khadiliah, trained by Anthony Nunes with Matthew Bennett aboard. Will not trouble the principals.

11 – LADY KARMA is a bay filly (April 20) by Legal Process out of Lady Rakwalaay, trained by Fitznahum Williams with Richard Henry in the saddle. Coming along needs more time.
