In a display of speed and strategy, Unspun, a talented two-year-old American-bred colt, won the prestigious $2 million Mr Sensational Trophy on Saturday, November 30, 2024.

This thrilling event which formed part of the Betting, Gaming & Lotteries Commission (BGLC)/Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA) Millionaire Series, showcased the best of both native-bred and imported two-year-olds, and race number three did not disappoint.

Trained by Donovan Hutchinson and expertly ridden by Christopher Mamdeen, Unspun executed a well-timed, come-from-behind strategy in the 7-furlong race.

After a strong start, Unspun initially lagged behind the early leaders—Unruly Mo (Shane Ellis), Burning Edge (Dick Cardenas), and Hazelnut (Dane Dawkins)—who set a fierce pace down the backstretch. However, the patient colt bided his time, ready to capitalise on the right moment.

That moment came at the critical halfway mark. As the horses rounded the half-mile (800m) turn, Unspun began to make his move, skillfully navigating through a narrow opening under Mamdeen's guidance. Surge after surge, Unspun asserted his dominance, taking the lead in deep stretch and finishing strong, crossing the wire with an impressive 2½-length victory.

Burning Edge secured the second spot, while Danka (Tevin Foster) rounded out the top three. The race concluded with a remarkable final time of 1:27.0, affirming Unspun's status as a rising star in the racing world.

With this victory, Unspun extends his winning streak to two and establishes himself as a formidable competitor to watch in future races. Fans and enthusiasts eagerly await what this promising colt will achieve next.
