Hukum got the better of a memorable duel with Westover to land the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.
The pair had the Group One mid-summer showpiece to themselves down the straight with Hukum getting his head in front at the line.
Master Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien's hopes of landing the mile-and-a-half showpiece with his Epsom and Irish Derby winner Auguste Rodin were dashed with the favourite finishing last of the 10 runners.
Third place went to King Of Steel, runner-up to Auguste Rodin in the English Derby.
Hukum was ridden by Jim Crowley and trained by Owen Burrows.
"The best day (of my career)," said Burrows.
"What a tough horse, and he had to be there, the second made us fight all the way," he added after his first King George success.
