Delphi made all for a cosy Listed success in the Nijinsky Stakes at Leopardstown.
Trained by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by Wayne Lordan, the Galileo colt was completing a hat-trick after winning a Curragh maiden and a Navan handicap on his two starts so far this term.
Sent off the 6-4 favourite, Lordan was positive from the off and Delphi was soon striding along in front with stablemate Numen on his heels and the other four runners happy to bide their time in behind.
However, when they tried to mount a challenge in the straight, Delphi kept finding a little extra and he was clear with two furlongs to run, eventually coming home a four-and-a-quarter-length winner.
Numen was second with Aunt Bee a further half-length back in third.
Lordan said: “He’s straightforward and he won from the front the last day, so I was happy to go along. I was confident he was going to get the mile and a half.
“He doesn’t kill himself, so you never know how much is actually in there.”
