KINGSTON, Jamaica - On Sunday, October 15, 2023, Run Julie Run, ridden by Omar Walker, narrowly defeated fellow debutante Queen of Soul (Tevin Foster) by a head in a maiden special weight event for native-bred two-year-olds over five furlongs round.
Run Julie Run, a roan filly sired by Successful Native out of Runaway Julie, won with a time of 1:01.2 (24.0 x 47.4). Francis, ridden by Raddesh Roman, finished third.
Trainer Ian Parsard praised the promising two-year-old in his post-race interview: "She's not that advanced but held on to win in a driving finish, which is always a good sign for a first-time debutante."
Noting her late foal status and steady progress without setbacks, Parsard was optimistic about Run Julie Run's scope for improvement and potential involvement in future races.
Run Julie Run shares pedigree links with champion Sotomayor. The filly was picked out at the sales by Parsard's son Peter-John as Lot 1.
Although his filly Queen of Soul came in second place, trainer Anthony Nunes can be proud of her performance. Hailing from Soul Warrior and Aretha lineage, Queen of Soul displayed both talent and fighting spirit in her first race – a sign that victory may be just around the corner for her.
