Blood Fire takes the second with Andre Powell
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Trainer Gary Subratie got off to a rollicking start by winning the first two races of 10 on the Caymanas Saturday (January 8) programme. After scoring in the first with 21-1 outsider T Brady, Subratie quickly revisited the winners’ enclosure, this time to lead in Blood Fire with Andre Powell doing the riding duties.
Racing in a three-year-old and upwards claiming contest ($550,000 - $450,000) at seven furlongs, Blood Fire was dominant in victory winning by 7 ½ lengths. Oldster Royal Vibes (Paul Francis) finished second with the third slot occupied by Uncle Vinnie (Dane Nelson).
The pacesetter in the event turned out to be number six Blind Faith (Oshane Nugent), as jockey Shane Richardson fell from the 39-1 chance Dracarys as the gates opened. It was later announced that Richardson was fine and would continue his riding engagements.
Following Blind Faith were Uncle Vinnie and Blood Fire. Making the turn for home, Powell pushed Blood Fire closer and by the time they straightened properly in the straight, Blood Fire was on top and winning was never in doubt.
Blood Fire was Subratie’s 699th career victory.
