KINGSTON, Jamaica – Trainer of the hot 1000 Guineas favourite She’s A Wonder, Ian Parsard made a bold statement early on Guineas Day with Princess Lizzy winning the Caymanas Saturday third.
Princess Lizzy with Dane Dawkins holding the reins won a four-year-old and upwards (non-winners of two) call over a distance of nine furlongs and 25 yards distance.
Parsard actually had a one-two result in the race but second by the post Ajita (Jordan Barrett) was disqualified and placed fourth for causing interference to the 3-5 favourite No Identity with Youville Pinnock aboard. This disqualification followed a stewards’ inquiry and an objection by Pinnock.
Princess Lizzy set off in front when the starter let them go and carried the field along the backstretch and rounding the first bend at the half mile post.
Going to the three-furlong marker Silent Cat (Anthony Thomas) made a bold move and took control.
In the lane, Silent Cat on the outside had the lead but Princess Lizzy kept on fighting and was able to regain the initiative. Yet after dealing with Silent Cat, Princess Lizzy had to dig even deeper as her stable companion Ajita shot through on the inside rails but the winning post intervened with Princess Lizzy lasting by a neck over Ajita with Silent Cat third.
After the disqualification, the final placings were:
First – Princess Lizzy
Second – Silent Cat
Third – No Identity
Fourth - Ajita
