KINGSTON, Jamaica - A tote-system malfunction has affected a host of prominent race tracks, including at Caymanas Park, Gulfstream Park (Florida), Tampa Bay Downs (Florida), Laurel Park (Maryland), and Santa Anita (California).
On the Jamaican front, after Box Box triumphed in the penultimate race (ninth) with a commanding effort, no dividends were disclosed. The final race of the day was subsequently scrapped due to the ongoing technical problem.
The tote-system issue cast a shadow over Tampa Bay's prestigious Tampa Bay Derby, relegating it to a non-wagering event.
Complications in bet processing were also felt at Gulfstream Park, Laurel Park, and Santa Anita, underscoring the breadth of the disruption. Adding to the day's cancellations, Tampa Bay Downs' closing turf allowance race was called off.
