  1. If people knew the facts.

As owners we spend more money that what we get from stakes earned.

But we love the sports that why we continue and pay little attention tho stakes earned.

People show also know that owners get only 70% of the stakes earned to assist with covering the expenses.

What is interesting is that trainers get 15% of the stakes earned plus the training fees.

    1. @Mr. Bernard, I feel 15% for trainers is justifiable considering the allocations for grooms and jockeys’. 70% for owners is also a huge percentage but it’s amounts to little due to meager purse totals. The promoters simply needs to acknowledge the fact that the current value of races aren’t cutting it and prove a substantial increase. It is definitely feasible thru a calculated approach.

  2. Akim, good to see your response.

At Gulfstream Park, I get 80% of the purse and the trainer, by agreement, gets 10% for wins and for some high stakes races for positions 2 and 3 as well. Also, grooms get nothing directly from the purse.

I fully agree with your second sentence. However, it requires looking at an integrated approach to betting and gaming for this to happen.

Anyhow, this has been the subject of discussion for sometime now.
I am not holding my breath.

Good luck as a relatively new owner. The industry needs you.
