KINGSTON, Jamaica – Some three-year-old Classic aspirants face more experienced four-year-olds in the Caymanas Saturday (July 16) second going nine furlongs and 25 yards.
THE QUICK GALLOPER gives an analysis of the seven starters in starting order.
1 - GOLIATH THE GREAT is a three-year-old grey colt (March 1) by Midnight Hawk out of Luminous Trieste trained by Robert Pearson with Dick Cardenas in the saddle. This event is a major step up in distance for this lightly raced colt. Goliath The Great moves up from six furlongs, his longest outing to date, to nine furlongs and 25 yards. Goliath The Great is the speed in the race, with this two-turn call notorious for producing winners from the sprinting bracket. Do not leave out Goliath The Great. Note, Goliath The Great races with the figure 8 on.
2 - I REALISE is a three-year-old bay gelding (March 28) by Northern Giant out of Regina Royale trained by Alford Brown with Anthony Thomas in the saddle. I Realise has scored two consecutive wins at this distance. The Al Brown trainee is at the stage of rapid improvement with this first run in a higher grade a possible rehearsal for a Derby appearance on August 6. I Realise has also been progressing well at exercise. Note, that Lasix has been removed from I Realise.
3 – THE CITADEL is a three-year-old chestnut gelding (May 20) by Key To Power out of Wings of Hope trained by Ian Parsard with Dane Dawkins in the saddle. Did nothing in the 2000 Guineas to suggest that he will be competitive in this one.
4 – MORIMOTO is a three-year-old bay colt (May 24) by Casual Trick out of Lucky Be Good trained by Anthony Nunes with Tevin Foster in the saddle. Finished fifth in the 2000 Guineas behind Blue Vinyl 14 days ago. This bay colt is showing a likeness for the longer distances and will be at home over this trip. Morimoto is developing at the right time and will be there when this one is being decided. Note, Morimoto races with the visor on.
5 – TRUE AL SKY is a four-year-old bay filly by American Dance out of Go Flint Go trained by Alford Brown with Oshane Nugent in the saddle. This four-year-old will have to put in the performance of her life to win this one. Note, True Al Sky races with the blinkers off.
6 – DADDY JONES is a four-year-old grey colt by American Dance out of Mete-Orite trained by Richard Azan with Youville Pinnock in the saddle. This four-year-old was not around six days ago at 7 ½ furlongs and although stripping fitter from that effort will be hard pressed to beat these. Note, Daddy Jones races with the blinkers on.
7 – OUR ANGEL is a three-year-old bay filly (April 18) by Savoy Stomp of My Angel trained by Robert Pearson with Reyan Lewis in the saddle. Our Angel has been developing well, especially among her three-year-old sex grouping. Tries two turns for the first time as a precursor to her entry in the 10-furlong Jamaica Oaks on August 7. This filly will be in the thick of things.
