KINGSTON, Jamaica – Whoshotthesheriff provided leading rider Anthony Thomas with a quick retort to his nearest rival Dane Nelson winning the first race with a patient victory ride on the Wayne DaCosta trained Whoshotthesheriff.
Contesting a Restricted Stakes for three-year-olds and upwards non-winners of three races travelling 5 ½ furlongs, the third of eight Friday races, Whoshotthesheriff had to settle for fourth as the speedy Basilicus (Paul Francis) set the early fractions of 22.4 x 46.0.
Basilicus carried the field into the straight but had a misstep probably because of the wet track and lost momentum with a furlong to go.
At this time Thomas was firing on Whoshotthesheriff who responded by surging in the final furlong to win by 1 ¼ lengths.
Basilicus battled gamely to hold for second with the 1-2 favourite Glock occupying the third slot.
The final time was 1:05.2.
