Nine races on the day
KINGSTON, Jamaica - THE QUICK GALLOPER continues the new feature on QUICKGALLOP.COM of analysing the races after each race day.
The target date for analysis is Sunday, March 13, 2022. Readers, please note that this analysis excludes certain races, which will be dealt with in separate articles.
RACE 1 – Mule Train finally decided to win on the 13th occasion he faced the starter. Jockey Aaron Chatrie preference for the inside rails paid off again, as he charged with Mule Train to gain victory in the final hop to the wire. The win by Mule Train was another example of an equipment change paying off, as the gelding raced with the blinkers off and the visor on. This was the first win for trainer Spencer Chung in 2022.

RACE 2 – At age 12, the gritty and everlasting Royal Vibes despite his many years is still able to find the spunk to win races. In a duel up the straight, Royal Vibes outdid Salah to earn his 15th career victory from, yes, 135 starts. Royal Vibes has now earned over $13 million in stakes. Give credit to jockey Paul ‘Country’ Francis for a good performance in the saddle. ‘Country’, a veteran of the pigskin, is still finding his way to the winners’ enclosure and has become a fixture on the local race cards.

RACE 3 – Race Car provided trainer Spencer Chung with his second winner on the day and in the year. Hats are taken off to sing the praises of this conditioner, as, after a defining injury, Race Car went through a rehabilitation period of over 18 months before he could return to the race track. To win after one race on his return over a distance, five furlongs round, which he not suited to, must be lauded. Well done to all. Race Car was the first of two winners for jockey Dane Nelson.

RACE 4 – Action Ann who raced competitively with the best around during her three-year-old days has not developed to reach the heights of her younger years, mainly because of injuries. With a change of stables, now taking orders from Patrick Lynch, and with the blinkers and tongue tie on, Action Ann won her third race from 13 starts. For the psychics in racing, Action Ann won on Sunday, March 13, the same date she won her last race, March 13, 2021.

RACE 5 – This event was a case of experience paying off for Thirtyonekisses, trainer Richard Azan and jockey Youville Pinnock in another three-year-old maiden contest (7 ½ furlongs). In addition, to being the experienced hand in the race, Thirtyonekisses benefitted from the introduction of the figure 8. The second and third place finishers El Cid and Get A Pepsi respectively should be watched closely when next on the race track.

RACE 6 – Colour Me Tan justified his even-money favouritism to give jockey Dane Nelson his second winner on the day.

RACE 7 – After showing her credentials last year in the prep races for the Classics, Sensational Ending’s career had to be checked due to injuries. This now four-year-old chestnut filly by Sensational Slam out of Pleasant Ending returned after her recovery period of approximately 10 months in winning nick, taking this four-year-old non-two call (6 furlongs), without any fuss. Congratulations to the team at the Jason DaCosta barn for getting Sensational Ending back to winning ways. Well done!
Sensational Ending - Anthony Thomas
RACE 8 – The 2022 Sir Howard Stakes for three-year-old colts and geldings (six furlongs) went to Tekapunt (Anthony Thomas) for trainer Jason DaCosta, the conditioner’s second winner on the race card. The Sir Howard review will be the subject of a separate article.
Tekapunt - Phillip Parchment
RACE 9 – Another old-stager Smokey Topaz (10-years-old), came to the fore with victory number 10 from 76 starts. Smokey Topaz was the first winner in 2022 for trainer Patrick Fong.
