RACE ONE – This four-year-old and upwards (non-winners of two) at 5 ½ furlongs provided She’s So Fabulous with an easy 5 ½ lengths victory. It was the chestnut filly’s second win from five starts, while coming off a long rest of 154 days. A job well done by trainer Dennis Thwaites and jockey Omar Walker. For Walker it was his first win on the day.
RACE TWO – Three-year-old bay colt Morimoto after his fifth place 14 days ago racing with the visor on in a non-two among his age group, continued to show steady improvement with a fighting win at 9 furlongs and 25 yards. This event can be viewed as a working preparation run for Morimoto with the Derby just three weeks away. A first win on the day for jockey Tevin Foster.
RACE THREE – It took inspired jockey at the moment Dane Dawkins only three races to find the winners’ enclosure this time on the Errol Pottinger conditioned Funky Fashion, who won by seven lengths. For the veteran Pottinger it was his second win this year from 29 starts.
RACE FOUR – Finally, after numerous attempts XY Soul got it right thanks to the reinsmanship of Tevin Foster. This race turned out to be duel involving Foster and Dane Dawkins on Dodge This Link. The two young riders battled tooth and nail with Foster getting the edge.
RACE FIVE – Sudden Flight trained by the emerging young trainer Nicholas Smith with Anthony Thomas in the saddle was expected to deliver a winning run, and that the four-year-old gelding did without a fuss.
RACE SIX – This race will be remembered not because of the first time win by Hunter’s Ridge but for the maiden win by apprentice Jewani Forbes. Forbes has been through a rough period, mainly because of his own making, since he got his licence to ride just over two years ago. He has come through the worst, and the hope is that, this young man will move on and stick to his main task of riding winners.
RACE SEVEN – This race won by Jordan Reign’s will be the subject of a separate article.
RACE EIGHT – In the history of horse racing in Jamaica there have been many special associations of horses and jockeys. One such association has developed in recent times between Superluminal and Omar Walker. That association produced more fruits with the usual fighting victory.
RACE NINE – This race won by Big Jule will be the subject of a separate article.
RACE TEN – Trainer Howard Jaghai is deserving of praise after returning Runway Icon is tip top shape after the filly last raced on January 22. It was an easy win for Runway Icon who went to the lead and fought gamely in the straight. Well done, Mr Jaghai.
