RACE ONE – The 2-1 chance Sweet Medicine won by 13 ½ lengths to continue the recent good form of her trainer David Lee Sin and jockey Aaron Chatrie. For Lee Sin, it was his fourth win in 2022 from 13 starts, while for Chatrie it was eighth from 97 rides.
RACE TWO – Emperorofthecats showed no ill effects from his effort in the 10-furlong Jamaica St Leger seven days prior. Under the guiding hands of Shane Ellis, Emperorofthecats with the visor on putt away the 2-5 favourite foreigner Madelyn’s Sunshine with aplomb at 5 ½ furlongs to reinforce the long-held view that this three-year-old gelding will be more effective at distances ranging from five furlongs to 7 ½ furlongs. It was win number three for Emperorofthecats from seven starts with earnings of over $2.5 million.
RACE THREE – The start of the upsetter’s assault came in the third when featherweight apprentice Ramon Nepare earned his second win this season atop the 10-1 Expeditious.
RACE FOUR – This race was decimated to six starters after two of the nominees were declared as late non-starters. This left the way for Samantha Fletcher to improve her number of winners to eight aboard 6-1 Persistent One. For trainer Donovan Plummer it was his eleventh trip to the winners’ enclosure.
RACE FIVE – The form in the fifth was turned asunder by old-timer Uncle Frank at odds of 10-1. This was Uncle Frank’s fifth run since being claimed on May 14, 2022, for $750,000. In those five engagements, Uncle Frank failed to hit the board racing at the Overnight Allowance level. On Saturday (July 9), Uncle Frank went back to claiming ($1 million) to give his trainer Patrick Fong his fourth winner in 2022. Jockey Aaron Chatrie closed his double on Uncle Frank.
RACE SIX – Vanquisher continued the agony of the longshots winning at odds of 6-1 after making one move with Matthew Bennett in the saddle for trainer Ray Phillips. The results of the first six races, with the longer odds horses prevailing, saw the Reggae 6 wager having a carryover of over $6.5 million.
RACE SEVEN – The stands came tumbling down on almost all bets as the punters’ anguish nosedived even further following Bunksy Boy win at scorching odds of 86-1. This 86-1 win ensured a surge of carryovers going into the Sunday race day.
RACE EIGHT – Finally a winning favourite on the day. Obviously wanting more ground to be fully effective, Sonny T And Chippy got 9 ½ furlongs and obliged at 3-5. There is now talk that Sonny T And Chippy, who was racing for the fourth occasion will be added as a potential starter in the August 6, Jamaica Derby. Let’s wait and see.
RACE NINE – Silent Cat (Tevin Foster) re-established the dominance on the day of the long odds horses winning. Trained by Uton Stewart, his second winner in 2022 from six starts, Silent Cat won at odds of 6-1.
RACE TEN – The lightly race Buzz City Light (5-1), trying at non-winners of two for the second time, made one move from the start and galloped resolutely in the straight to win easily by 4 ½ furlongs.
