Easy does it for General Mubaraak
Seven-year-old bay gelding General Mubaraak, made light work of rivals to win a five-year-old and upward Optional Claiming ($180,000-$150,000) event over 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m).
With Carlos Blake riding for trainer Anthony Nunes, General Mubaraak, the 3-5 favourite, settled into fourth place at the of and raced down the backstretch behind No Money Friend (Omar Walker), Stan Roy (Garfield Gordon), and Shashamani Dance (Ramon Nepare).
General Mubaraak then scooped by rivals and joined No Money Friend going into the half-mile (800m) turn before pulling away to win easily by 5 ½ lengths in the end. Reasons (Roger Hewitt) came on strong towards the end to get second money ahead of Powerful Red (Nicholas Hibbert).
The final time for the event was recorded at 1:23.4 after splits of 24.1 x 49.0 x 1:16.0.
Double for Joseph Thomas
Trainer Joseph Thomas posted a noticeable double when his chances Key Witness and Doctor Grey won their respective races, wrapping up the trainer’s fourth win for the season.
Ridden by Raddesh Roman, Key Witness easily won a three-year-old and upward Optional Claiming ($400,000-$300,000) event by 4 ½ lengths over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m). Key Witness won ahead of Baltusrol (Youville Pinnock) and Voytek (Anthony Thomas) in a time of 1:08.2.
With Javaniel Patterson in the saddle, Doctor Grey came from behind horses and got up in the nick of time to win a native-bred five-year-old and upward Restricted Allowance 1V (NW3) event over 7 furlongs (1,400m). Doctor Grey won by a neck ahead of Kiah (Shane Richardson) and Sweet Surprise (Oshane Nugent) in a time of 1:30.3.
Three in a row for Versatile Vision
Four-year-old bay filly Versatile Vision made it three wins in a row after leading home rivals to win a three-year-old and upward Claiming ($1m-$800,000) event over 7 furlongs (1,400m).
Owned and trained by Maurice Crooks and ridden by Anthony Thomas, Versatile Vision raced prominently in second place behind Dejae’s Boy at the off. Versatile Vision, however, lost some ground on the leaders down the backstretch as she was now settled into fourth place at the half-mile, allowing Rohan Kabir (Abigail Able) and Another Bullet (Tevin Foster) to by.
Turning for home, Versatile Vision hit top gear and came with a strong run in deep stretch to beat Dejae’s Boy by a length and a quarter in a time of 1:27.0. Rohan Kabir was third.
Thegoodlife is finally off the mark
After six attempts with a couple of close finishes, Thegoodlife finally found her head in front in a native-bred three-year-old and upward maiden special weight event for fillies only over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m).
With Phillip Parchment replacing Anthony Thomas in the saddle aboard the Jason DaCosta’s trainee, Thegoodlife was off to a reasonably good start and raced just behind the pace as Carol Strike (Matthew Bennett), Chiney Music (Tevin Foster), and Don’tplaywithmagic (Chalrick Budhai).
Thegoodlife then produced the goods in deep stretch and outbattled Queen Adele to the wire, winning by ¾ lengths in the end. Carol Strike was third in a final time of 1:09.2.
Three horses claimed
In the first race, Michael Francis claimed winner General Mubaraak for owner Delroy Wellington for $180,000 from Anthony Nunes.
Joseph Durrant claimed winner of the second race Key Witness for owner Ricardo Durrant for $400,000 from Joseph Thomas.
In the fourth race, Dennis Thwaites claimed winner Versatile Vision for owner Carlton Watson for $1 million from Maurice Crooks.
