KINGSTON, Jamaica – The big race in town this weekend is the seven furlong Pick -3 “Super Challenge” Trophy for two-year-olds.
THE PICK 3 “SUPER CHALLENGE” TROPHY
THE QUICK GALLOPER shares with readers some facts and figures about the nine horses declared to start.
1 – There are three fillies in the line-up of the nine starters, all the rest are colts (no geldings). The three fillies are Golden Wattle, Fly Messenger Fly, and Prncsshootingstar.
2 – Of the nine runners, the one with the most starts is Fly Messenger Fly with six starts. Fly Messenger Fly is followed by stablemate Tekapunt with five starts.
3 – Four of the nine starters in the Pick 3 enter as winners of their last races. The four are Slammer, Deezi, Power, and Brinks.
4 – All nine starters race with Lasix, Brinks, and Prncsshootingstar for the first time.
5 – There are five trainers with horses in the Pick 3 - Anthony Nunes, Richard Azan, Jason DaCosta, Philip Feanny, and Ian Parsard. Of the five DaCosta and Parsard have not won this race before. This is the first occasion that DaCosta will have starters in the Pick 3.
6 – The dominant sire with progeny racing in the Pick 3 is the YS 1955 Limited’s Northern Giant. Northern Giant is represented by Fly Messenger Fly (Northern Giant – Preach Preacher); Deezi (Northern Giant – Buyabook), and Tekapunt (Northern Giant – Just A Flutter). The stallion Bern Identity who is domiciled at the Paradise at Spring Village Farm is represented by two runners Perfect Brew (Bern Identity – Moonlight Brew), and Brinks (Bern Identity – Indian Bluff).
