The day trainer Gary Subratie reached 700 winners
KINGSTON, Jamaica – What was expected to be a calm race day honouring the printery department of the promoting company got off to a fierce start for punters following the opening win by 21-1 chance T Brady-ridden by Chris Mamdeen and trained Gary Subratie.
T Brady’s victory shredded most of the players in the Reggae 6, but it cleared the way for Subratie to win the first three races on the card for a natural hattrick. Subratie has now won five races from the 20 offered since the new season got underway on January 1.
Those three winners allowed Subratie, who is off to his usual quick start at the beginning of the season, to reach the significant milestone of 700 career wins. For sure, the second-generation conditioner will never forget Itiz What Itiz, the horse which gave him his 700th career victory.

The jockeys on the day, and not surprisingly, were led by a thoroughly rejuvenated Robert Halledeen and Christopher Mamdeen who both brought home two winners each.
Halledeen has hit a rich vein of form over the last six race days, which came after he cemented the position of number one rider in the stables of champion Anthony Nunes.
If Halledeen stays with the Nunes camp during 2022, he will probably have his best chance of becoming a champion jockey. We will have to wait and see.
Mamdeen, a former champion, has not developed as expected and is the middle pack of the riders at the park at present. With this double on the second race day of 2022, Mamdeen has started well and the hope is that form will continue and also the improvement necessary for him to be listed with the top riders.
The three-year-old races have thus far been lukewarm. The three-year-old maiden condition call at seven furlongs saw the Lawrence Freemantle trained Shadowfax (Legal Process – Aretha) fighting resolutely for a neck victory over Ha Go Siu Mei.
Now racing fans await with anticipation to see what the other three-year-olds have to offer.
The top class race on the day was an Overnight Allowance contest going six and a half furlongs. In a stirring stretch duel, the Jason DaCosta trained Eagle One with the rugged Phillip Parchment hung on for dear life to thwart the late challenge of El Profesor (Oshane Nugent), winning by a neck.
This was the first winner in 2022 for DaCosta.
