KINGSTON, Jamaica - Before THE QUICKGALLOPER goes through the first six races on Saturday, May 14, 2022, it is to be noted that a function took place on the infield before the start of the first race in honour of late broadcaster and racing administrator Chris Armond.
A special flag was placed at half-mast as a show of respect to Armond.
Members of the professional bodies and representatives from the promoting company were present at this solemn function. Rest In Peace, Chris Joseph Armond.
RACE ONE – This $250,000 - $200,000 claimer (four furlongs) extolled the virtues of keeping a straight course coming down the chute. Jockey Tevin Foster currently enjoying a purple patch kept Commissioner drawn at one as straight as he could and got the win. For trainer Lincoln Lungs it was his second win this year from only seven starts. It was the first on the day for the surging Foster.
RACE TWO – With championship jockey leader Dane Dawkins down for the day after a fall at morning exercise his many rides were farmed out to other jockeys. One beneficiary was Raddesh Roman who piloted the Patrick Lynch trained Joyful to victory in a four-year-old maiden contest at four furlongs. This was the same jockey–trainer combination that won THE KINGSTON with Blue Vinyl six days before.
RACE THREE – With the race track at this time seemingly favouring the front runners, Out On A Limb with Andre Powell on board for trainer Kingsley Davis made one move going 6 ½ furlongs at odds of 3-1. The odds-on favourite in this event at 3-5, Bruce Wayne finished in last place. It was the first win this year for Davis.
RACE FOUR – The trend of the front winners winning was halted in the fourth as Oshane Nugent timed his run with perfection on D’s Choice to take this event in commanding fashion for trainer Alford Brown, his fifth this season.
RACE FIVE – Pure Heart (Youville Pinnock) had the speed and he used it from the outset to blow rivals away in this bottom of the barrel claimer over six furlongs. Of note, it was the combination of trainer Dennis Pryce and owner Busy Racing Stables leading in another winner.
RACE SIX – Tevin Foster completed another double when he guided the Anthony Subratie trained Tequila Blue at odds of 7-2. For Subratie it was his third win this year. It was an unusual occurrence at the Park to witness a 7-2 favourite winning.
