KINGSTON, Jamaica – The second jewel in the Triple Crown series of races, the 10-furlong Jamaica Leger will be contested on Saturday next, July 1, 2023, at Caymanas Park.

Thirteen twelve – three-year-olds are entered with only two pre-race favourite and 2000 Guineas winner Mojito and winner of the 1000 Guineas, Mamma Mia having the opportunity of becoming a Triple Crown winner.

The Quick Galloper’s assessment on Quick Gallop Dot Com, and its YouTube Channel, The Quick Galloper is ready.

This analysis is done in draw order.

NUMBER ONE – MOJITO: Mojito has won his last five races, inclusive of the one-mile 2000 Guineas. The one mile of the Guineas was the longest ever travelled by Mojito. The manner of his victories to date is indicative of a thoroughbred of supreme class. While many are asking if Mojito can get the St Leger distance of ten furlongs. All the evidence indicates that 10 furlongs will not be an issue for Mojito, plus, he is so far ahead of the three-year-old pack, class alone will suffice.

NUMBER TWO – RHYTHM BUZZ: Rhythm Buzz finished way behind Mojito in the Guineas. Rhythm still has much room for improvement and is one of three horses in the St Leger, who has won going two turns (nine furlongs and 25 yards). The St Leger trip is right for Rhythm Buzz as he is one who stays off the pace while running strongly in the latter part of his races. The Quick Galloper believes that Rhythm Buzz will be the horse to watch, with a second or third-place finish within his reach.

NUMBER THREE – MONEY MISER: Money Miser finished second by 11 lengths behind Mojito in the 2000 Guineas. Gives the impression that he will enjoy the two turns of the St Leger, with a possible place on the board, the best option for Money Miser.

NUMBER FOUR – PRINCESS SHARON: Coming also, and with time will get through her conditions.

NUMBER FIVE – ALL FOR LOVE: All For Love has not lived up to early expectations, and now racing against the colts will not make it any easier.

NUMBER SIX – THALITA: Thalita was surprisingly asked to be early in the 1000 Guineas, which led to her faltering in the final furlong. This is not the style of Thalita, if she is ridden off the pace, not too far, leaving her to strike in the final, then her chances of hitting the board as winning against the top Colts is not going to be easy, especially going against the colts.

NUMBER SEVEN – MAMMA MIA: Mamma Mia’s grit and determination came to the fore when she won the 1000 Guineas after a ding-dong battle with her stablemate, Thalita. Mamma Mia, while gifted and a talented filly, based on her running style, should not effectively get the distance of the St Leger. As such, she will have to show remarkable improvement to deal with the colts, and even her stable companion, Thalita.

NUMBER EIGHT – SENSATIONAL MOVE: This chestnut colt is effectively making up numbers.

NUMBER NINE - KAI ON THE GO: Racing completely out of his depth.

NUMBER 10 – HUNTSMAN: Hunts can be listed as the unknown factor in the St Leger. With two wins from three starts, Huntsman has demonstrated a lot of class albeit against weaker opposition. After finishing 12 lengths behind Mojito in The Kingston, the decision was taken to skip the 2000 Guineas, in order to better prepare for the St Leger, with the ultimate aim being the Jamaica Derby. A lot is at stake for Huntsman in the St Leger, as he is probably the only one in this line-up to challenge Mojito.

NUMBER ELEVEN- FROM SHARE TO BEN: The steep learning curve continues for From Sheer To Ben.

NUMBER TWELVE – LIFE IS LIFE: Has no realistic chance of winning.
