Three horses make their debut

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Three horses will grace the track for their competitive debut on Saturday, March 12, 2022. Two of the first-timers are nominated in the first race and the third is scheduled to face the starter in the sixth.
Number eight in the first race is Queen Zan, a four-year-old chestnut filly by Midnight Hawk out of Her Royal Highness trained by Junior Small. Roger Hewitt is the assigned rider. Queen Zan was scheduled to begin her racing career on February 13, but was declared a late-non-starter, lame.
Number nine also in the first race is Pro Johnny, a four-year-old bay colt by American Dance out of Savanna Rae trained by Gary Crawford. Dane Nelson is the assigned rider.
Number six in the sixth race is Nefertari, a three-year-old bay filly by Savoy Stomp out of Princess Geeta trained by Anthony Nunes. Linton Steadman is the assigned rider. It should be noted that the dam of Nefertari, Princess Geeta has already produced Fayrouz and Will At War. Fayrouz is a former winner of the Jamaica Oaks.
Just for interest, THE QUICK GALLOPER, provides readers on this site with an explanation of the name Nefetari.
“Nefertari, also known as Nefertari Meritmut, was an Egyptian queen and the first of the Great Royal Wives (or principal wives) of Rameses the Great. Nefertari means 'beautiful companion' and Meritmut means 'Beloved of the goddess Mut'.”
