THE TWO-YEAR-OLDS – RICHARD AZAN

The usual buzz associated with any two-year-old season is gaining needed momentum with the Cash Pot weekend acting as the main source of the rush.

Slammer, trained by Richard Azan came to the fore with venom and class in the Cash Pot Trophy, so too did his stablemate Perfect Brew, and filly Silent Mission to a lesser extent, while many were left to ponder the non-performance of the much-heralded Prncsshootingstar.

The Cash Pot race day was Saturday (October 30), and then came Sunday (October 31), and the winning appearance of another Azan trainee Power Ranking.

Azan completely dominated the two-year-old weekend as his fairly quiet barn since the start of the season has suddenly sprung to life. Finishing one-two in the Cash Pot Trophy and then winning another of the maiden juvenile races in two consecutive days is quite an achievement, and Azan must be congratulated for his investment over the years and his love of horse racing.

Another observation, if THE QUICK GALLOPER statistics are correct, only trainers Azan (Perfect Brew, Slammer, and Power Ranking), Jason DaCosta (Silent Mission, Deezi, Fly Messenger Fly and Tekapunt), Anthony Nunes (Golden Wattle), and Philip Feanny (Prncsshootingstar) have won two-year-old races thus far this season.

One has to spare a thought for Rupunzel trained by Phillip Elliott. Rupunzel, a bay colt by Savoy Stomp – Miss Pasion, has raced five times and has finished second on four occasions.

Let’s now look at the breeding of the winning two-year-olds so far this season, not in order of the dates they won:

1 – Prncssshootingstar (Buzz Nightmare – Khaleesi’s Revenge)

2 – Fly Messenger Fly (Northern Giant – Preach Preacher)

3 – Tekapunt (Northern Giant – Just A Flutter)

4 – Golden Wattle (Lion Tamer – Golden Glory)

5 – Slammer (Savoy Stomp – Fedora)

6 – Silent Mission (Savoy Stomp – Lady Mandi)

7 – Perfect Brew (Bern Identity – Moonlight Brew)

8 – Deezi (Northern Giant – Buyabook)

9 – Power Ranking (Casual Trick – Escandalosa)

Early days yet to do any critical analysis, but already the trends are developing. Follow THE QUICK GALLOPER on this website.
