1 – THE BIG ‘BOYS’

The win by Jordon Reign’s solidified the enviable position of trainer Ian Parsard.  Parsard now has the two top horses currently in training, Mahogany, and Jordon Reign’s, thereby giving the conditioner a strong hand in the major races to come in the latter part of this racing year. In addition to having Mahogany and Jordon Reign’s, Parsard also has the improving Big Jule on his shedrow.

2 – DANE DAWKINS

The rise of jockey Dane Dawkins continues apace. This young reinsman due to his natural ability, hard work and dedication has vaulted to not only the top of the jockeys’ standings; he has also captured the full notice of racegoers. Dawkins is not the chirpy, attention-seeking individual, instead, he goes about his business quietly and without any trumpeting. The young man won four races on the day to extend his lead in the jockeys’ race. He has soft hands and is not prone to overusing the whip. The championship race is not a done and dusted affair, as reigning champion Anthony Thomas is still riding well and will fight to the end. Thomas had two winners on the day. Racing fans are in for some interesting times.

3 – LATE NON-STARTERS

On the day, unlike last weekend, there was only one late non-starter. This late non-starter was announced before the start of the day’s proceedings which gave punters due time to make their wagers.

4 – RETURNING FROM INJURIES

Several horses have been returning from long breaks following surgery and various other ailments in recent times, and have been winning. These horses include Rubyistheone, Ha Gow Siu Mei, Make Up, Artist, Midnight Blue, and Johncrowjeff.

Johncrowjeff, a four-year-old bay gelding by Natural Selection out of Sweetyourock raced for the first occasion over four furlongs (non-winners of two) on July 30, 2022, after a rest period of over 15 months and was a winner.

The Jason DaCosta trainee, Jerome Innis-ridden Johncrowjeff returned on Saturday (August 13) at five furlongs straight and was again a winner.
