Foreigner wins at odds of 4-1
KINGSTON, Jamaica – US-bred five-year-old bay gelding Eagle One notched his seventh career victory with probably his best effort to date in the Eileen Cliggott Memorial Trophy, which was the seventh of 10 races on the Caymanas Saturday (February 5) programme.
Trained by Jason DaCosta with champion jockey Anthony Thomas holding the reins, Eagle One found success in a three-year-old and upwards Open Allowance / Graded Stakes contest going 6 ½ furlongs.
It was Nuclear Noon (Robert Halledeen) who was the early leader but Father Patrick (Oshane Nugent) travelling on the inside rails took over after a furlong and a half of the distance was covered.
Leaving the four-furlong marker the order read Father Patrick, followed by Nuclear Noon, with Eagle One on the outside. Close to entering the straight, Thomas made his move on Eagle One with the latter and Father Patrick locked next to each other when they entered the straight.
It the stretch drive, however, there was never any doubt as to the winner, as Eagle One went on to win by 5 ¾ lengths in a time of 1:19.3.
Father Patrick held for second with Nuclear Noon third.
