KINGSTON, Jamaica – The following is the analysis of THE KINGSTON run on Sunday, May 8, 2022. THE KINGSTON was contested over 7 ½ furlongs and was limited to three-year-old colts and geldings.
FIRST: Blue Vinyl – Made up in no uncertain manner for his dull effort on last. Blue Vinyl benefited from the lightweight (52.0 kgs) he had to carry, and he had a safe trip as well, which aided his cause. The final time of 1:32.4 was a new stakes record and was one which emphasised the wellness of this Bern Identity out of Blufield offspring. More than anything else, Blue Vinyl demonstrated in his victory run was the ability to stay, which will be needed when he starts in the 2000 Guineas (one mile), the St Leger (10 furlongs), and the Derby (12 furlongs). It was truly a defining run by Blue Vinyl and no praise can be too high for his trainer Patrick Lynch and jockey Raddesh Roman. It is not often that we see Lynch leading in his horses, but on Sunday he was on hand with owner Michael Gayle to lead in Blue Vinyl and to collect the trophy. With this significant tick in the win column for Blue Vinyl, he heads to the 2000 Guineas as the leader of his pack. WELL, DONE TO ALL!
SECOND: Perfect Brew - Gave his usual consistent effort but was never a threat to the winner Blue Vinyl. Perfect Brew always puts in a good shift, yet as a three-year-old, he still is unfamiliar with the winning post. Perfect Brew is slowly finding himself but time is running out.
THIRD: Supreme Song – This half-brother to Toona Ciliata seems to be adopting the same history profile as his illustrious family member, that of, finding his true worth and class later in their three-year-old career and beyond. Supreme Song was the unknown factor coming into THE KINGSTON, and he advertised his progress by coming on strong in the stretch drive, giving the impression that he will have no difficulties over the longer distances. Supreme Song must be watched carefully going forward, as he seems to be peaking at the right time with three weeks to go to the 2000 Guineas.
FOURTH: Emperorofthecats – Carried the weight, allowing lumps to all his rivals, and that burden took its toll in the final furlong when after taking the field into the lane, Emperorofthecats lost his momentum and could not hold on against his lighter weighted opponents. By no means was it a capitulating effort by Emperorofthecats, instead, it was a bold run packed with courage and determination. This effort should sink deeply into the hoofs of Emperorofthecats and hold him in good measure when they all sit at level weights in the 2000 Guineas.
FIFTH: Brinks – Simply not the force he was as a two-year-old. This was another mediocre run by Brinks. He will have to do much more to be listed among the leaders going into the 2000 Guineas.
SIXTH: Nomoredeals – Tried his best in his usual rugged away but was left wanting.
SEVENTH: Power - More, much more was expected from this 3-2 favouriite, especially following his non-two victory at a mile in 1:40 and mash. Power failed to deliver, as he was never a factor throughout THE KINGSTON. The QUICKGALLOP.COM analysts have unanimously taken the decision to write off this run by Power, treating it as just one of those inevitable bad days at the office. The belief is that Power will return with the experience under his belt and will improve his status.
EIGHTH: The Citadel – Entered THE KINGSTON with a two-win record from two starts and left with his first defeat. The Citadel was a complete no-show.
NINTH: Tekapunt - He was expected to do better but suffered from traffic bumps most of the backstretch and around the turn. With a better passage, Tekapunt would have finished in a higher position but still behind the principals.
TENTH: Salute The Deputy - Cannot manage these.
ELEVENTH: Shadowfax - Was a no show.
TWELFTH: KP Choice - Way behind the rest at this time.
DID NOT FINISH: DEEZI – Unfortunately Deezi cracked a bone and was put down.
