KINGSTON, Jamaica - The fifth race on Saturday, September 14, 2024, is for three and four-year-olds non-winners of four, and also for imported three-year-olds and upward, non-winners of three.
Seven are entered in what appears to be a wide-open contest coming down the five-furlong chute.
The Quick Galloper’s assessment of these seven starters is published below.
1 - UNBELIEVABLE FORCE is a three-year-old dark bay filly (USA April 19) by McCracken out of Debit Or Credit, trained by Philip Feanny with Raddesh Roman riding. Enters non-three with only a single tick in her win column. Unbelievable Force, while heavily supported on last (August 31), was beaten by stablemate Riches To Rags. Now she races over the straight for the first time against opponents more accustomed to this distance.
2 - BOLD MOVE is a three-year-old bay colt (April 5) by Sunshine N Shadow out of Money Move, trained by Gary Subratie with Omar Walker in the saddle. Returns to his home ground of sprinting having been a total no-show in the Derby. With two wins under his belt from seven starts, Bold Move has to be given some consideration.
3 - SMARTASSET is a four-year-old bay colt by Bold Conquest out of Cerasini, trained by Tensang Chang with Matthew Bennett aboard. Smartasset is the only entrant to win three races. His three wins have been accomplished over the straight course, but having not raced in 84 days, may need the outing. Cannot be ruled out.
4 - MATUSO is a bay colt (April 7) by Casual Trick out of Puddy Pooh, trained by Richard Azan with Pauk Francis holding the reins. Ran a blinder on last (August 1), when finishing second behind Grecian Light over the straight course. In that second-place finish, Matuso was a half-a-length ahead of El Rapido. With El Rapido allowing Matuso about equal in the handicaps, the order should not change.
5 - TEFLON DON is a three-year-old bay colt (May 13) by Casual Trick out of The Lady Scored, trained by Jason DaCosta with Tevin Foster as the jockey nominated to ride. Returns to the competitive arena after a break of 105 days. Has a career of two wins from five starts, with those wins coming down the five-straight course. Despite the long layoff, Teflon Don has to be afforded more than a reasonable chance of success.
6 - RICHES TO RAGS is a three-year-old chestnut filly (USA April 21) by Union Rags out of Place Des Voges, trained by Philip Feanny with Richard Henry riding. Riches To Rags makes a quick return after upsetting at 36-1 on last (August 31). With lots of speedsters nominated to race, Riches To Rags with his run-on style can make it two in a row.
7 - ED RAPIDO is a three-year-old roan colt (USA August 1) by Valiant Minister out of Sunset Silhouette, trained by Nicholas Wehby with Oneil Mullings aboard. Note that El Rapido races with first-time Lasix. His only win from three starts was achieved over the straight course. Loves the straight, and should make good use of the outside draw.
