KINGSTON, Jamaica - The sixth race on the card for Saturday, February 22, 2025, honours the 2024 champion trainer, Jason DaCosta.
This event features three-year-old maiden fillies competing over a distance of 5 ½ furlongs.
The Quick Galloper provides an analysis of the eleven contenders to predict the potential outcomes:
1 - LINGUIST: A bay filly (February 5) by Aveenu Malcainu out of Bilingual, trained by Anthony Nunes with Tevin Foster riding. Linguist recently finished just behind the winner in the 5-straight Eight Thirty Sprint, showcasing her form over three career starts. Coming from a strong lineage, she has prepared well for this race and merits significant respect.
2 - KHALEESI: A grey filly (March 27) by Aveenu Malcainu out of Cloudy Grey, trained by Carlton Cunningham with Raddesh Roman in the saddle. Khaleesi will race with blinkers off and a tongue tie on, in addition to first-time Lasix. Though she may benefit from the shorter trip, the equipment changes suggest her performance may need to be monitored.
3 - RILEY J: A bay filly (February 16) by Soul Warrior out of Hail De Cat, trained by David Powell with Paul Francis aboard. After being disqualified in her last outing on January 18 over six furlongs, where she finished slowly in 1:15.2, Riley J comes in as a progressive filly and is expected to be fitter this time around. She deserves fair consideration.
4 - DUTCHESS: A bay filly (April 9) by Casual Trick out of Curlin’s Macbeth, trained by Anthony Nunes with Reyan Lewis riding. Making her debut on February 1, she finished third, five lengths behind Lady Babita and her stablemate Linguist. Having shown improvement in her morning workouts, Dutchess looks set for a strong performance.
5 - CASUALLYYOURS: A bay filly (February 26) by Casual Trick out of Unpredictable, trained by Michael Marlowe with Omar Simpson as the designated jockey. Racing with a tongue tie, she has struggled to find her stride in her three previous starts.
6 - FAMILY FEUD: A brown filly (March 28) by Successful Native out of Fallabakami, trained by Emelio Mclean with Winston Morris in the saddle. Racing in a visor while cheek pieces are off, Family Feud has yet to display promising form over her two starts.
7 - HANSA: A bay filly (February 4) by Successful out of Cape, trained by Richard Azan with Ismael Velasquez riding. Despite encountering setbacks in her last race on January 18, Hansa managed a third-place finish. She has been showing signs of improvement in her morning sessions, making her a contender for this race.
8 - STARRAURA: A chestnut filly (March 10) by Bold Conquest out of Little Wasp, trained by Jason DaCosta with Robert Halledeen riding. As a first-time starter, Starraura has gained attention in her training, showing good ability and preparedness. She’s expected to be competitive at the finish.
9 - CHOO BLUE: A bay filly (March 20) by Sensational Slam out of Choo Choo Blue, trained by Peter McMaster with Samantha Fletcher aboard. Choo Blue, who has a visor on, started her career with a strong third-place finish on January 26 and has been progressing well in training, making her a candidate for a top finish.
10 - WOMAN IN LOVE: A chestnut filly (January 27) by Sensational Slam out of Woman Is Boss, trained by Peter-John Parsard with Shane Ellis as the designated rider. Another debutante who has been impressing in workouts, Woman In Love is poised for a solid showing.
11 - QUEEN LATEPHA: A bay filly (April 5) by Casual Trick out of Gold Price, trained by Gregg Fennell with Omar Walker riding. Although showing improvement in her performance, she will need to continue developing to be competitive in this race.
