The native-bred three-year-old colts and geldings will start their journey on the ‘Road to the Triple Crown” in the Sir Howard Stakes, a non-winners of two event over 6 furlongs on Sunday, March 24, 2024.
Below is the analysis of the six runners done by The Quick Galloper.
1 - ALLEGIANCE is a chestnut colt (February 26) by Midnight Hawk out of Princess Geeta, trained by Anthony Nunes with Reyan Lewis riding. The most experienced runner in the line-up with four starts to his credit. Allegiance has not demonstrated enough to be seriously considered as the winner of the Sir Howard.
2 - J SPIETH is a grey colt (March 26) by Spieth out of Alice and Trixie, trained by Patrick Lynch with Tevin Foster aboard. Made a successful debut on March 2. Then J Spieth walked out of the starting gates, then recovered in the 7 ½ furlongs call to beat rivals by 7 ¼ lengths in a time of 1:37.4. With scope for improvement and the issue of leaving the starting gates hopefully corrected, J Spieth is going to play a role in the outcome.
3 - TEFLON DON is a bay colt (May 13) by Casual Trick out of The Lady Scored, trained by Jason DaCosta with Robert Halledeen holding the reins. Teflon Don was impressive on debut when winning over the straight on February 10. Then Telfon Don won by 8 lengths in a time of 1:1.2. Teflon Don has been doing well in the mornings, and will be in the mix when this one is being decided.
4 - WORLD SURPRISE is a bay colt (April 17) by Sunshine N Shadow out of Eighteen Karat, trained by Anthony Nunes with Raddesh Roman in the saddle. Makes his seasonal debut here. World Surprise was a winner on debut on December 23, 2023, over five furlongs straight where he won by 8 ¼ lengths in 1:00.2. This colt has been well-prepared for his three-year-old opener, and must be considered as having a life chance.
5 - KING’S CROWN is a chestnut colt (May 2) by Berlino Di Tiger out of Dancing Queen, trained by Steven Todd with Phillip Parchment aboard. Has only an outsider’s chance of winning.
6 - PLAYFAIR is a bay colt (April 26) by Sensational Slam out of I Am The One, trained by Anthony Nunes with Shamaree Muir riding. Also was a winner on debut. Playfair won by a short head over four furlongs (800m) in 48.2 on January 1. Playfair is an outsider.
