KINGSTON, Jamaica - After 18 attempts, four-year-old grey filly Sweet Victory finally won her first race on Saturday, January 13, 2024. The race was for maiden native-bred horses aged four and older, covering a distance of 7 furlongs.
Jockey Tevin Foster, riding for Willie’s Racing and trainer Howard Jaghai, guided Sweet Victory from behind to secure a dominant win by over 8 lengths, finishing in 1 minute and 30.4 seconds.
Trainer Jaghai expressed his satisfaction with the filly's performance to the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide, noting her gradual improvement and readiness to win. He praised Foster's familiarity with Sweet Victory and his skilful riding.
Sweet Victory, now moving up to compete with horses that have won not more than two races, showed her best form over the 7-furlong distance. Jaghai hopes she will continue to build on this success.
During the race, Foster kept Sweet Victory just behind the leaders, moving up steadily before taking the lead in the final stretch. She finished strongly, with no other horses posing a challenge, beating runners like Captain Philip and Lion Charmer.
Bred by Spieth from the mare Bitter End, Sweet Victory has shown she excels at middle-distance races and has potential for more wins.
