THE QUICK GALLOPER assesses the nine starters

KINGSTON, Jamaica – On Grooms' Association Day (Saturday, March 26, 2022), the top-ranking event is an Overnight Allowance call in which nine horses have been entered. The distance is six furlongs.
THE QUICK GALLOPER has done the assessment of the nine starters, which is provided below in the order of the draw.
1 – KAY BOY is a five-year-old chestnut horse by Rising Moon out of Amicable trained by Gresford Smith with Aaron Chatrie in the saddle. Kay Boy, it must be said, has done better than expected to reach Overnight, however, after three starts in this class, Kay Boy is yet to show that he is ready for victory. Projected odds 14-1.
2 – CUSTER is a six-year-old chestnut horse by Blue Pepsi Lodge out of Patty Girl trained by Gary Crawford with Matthew Bennett in the saddle. Custer has done well to reach this far,. No more can be added at this time. Projected odds 35-1.
3 – FEARLESS CHAMPION is a five-year-old roan horse by Fearless Vision out of Granville Greta trained by Alford Brown with Dane Nelson in the saddle. Fearless Vision was a winner in the top claiming bracket on last and his one attempt in Overnight was unsuccessful. In addition, six furlongs will be short for Fearless Champion. Projected odds 3-1.
4 – UNKNOWN SOLDIER is six-year-old bay mare by American Dance out of Outfither trained by Phillip Lee with Romario Spencer in the saddle. Raced in claiming on March 5, and with the competition of higher quality here, Unknown Soldier is not likely to be the victor. Projected odds 16-1.
5 – EL GRINGO is a six-year-old bay gelding by Northern Giant out of Heart Throb trained by Donovan Russell with Odeen Edwards in the saddle. El Gringo does not belong here. Projected odds 99-1.
6 – SWEET N SMART (USA) is a five-year-old bay mare by Smarty Jones out of Sweet Margi trained by Gary Subratie with Dane Dawkins in the saddle. Sweet N Smart has been gaining ground in Overnight on the four occasions she has competed in the class. This foreign mare displayed grit when losing by a neck over five furlongs round to Race Car. Sweet N Smart is in the pink of form and is going to be difficult to beat. Projected  odds 8-5.
7 – CURLIN’S AFFAIR is a four-year-old chestnut colt by Perfect Curlin out of Nuclear Affair trained by Anthony Nunes with Robert Halledeen in the saddle. Curlin’s Affair has raced twice in Overnight finishing second by 2 3/4 lengths behind Legality and on February 19 was a distant fourth. This colt is the youngest in this field, and a much-improved effort is required to make winning possible. Curlin’s Affair has been progressing well at exercise and punters can expect this colt to fight out the finish. Projected odds 9-5.
8 – GAMBLER is a five-year-old bay mare by Freedom for Jante out of Kennisha trained by Michael Marlowe with Trevor Simpson in the saddle. Truth be told the chance of Gambler is slim to none. Projected odds 35-1.
9 – RUM WITH ME is a five-year-old bay horse by Casual Trick out of Zacapa trained by Patrick Lynch with Youville Pinnock in the saddle. Rum With Me in his first Overnight attempt did enough (5th by 6 ½ lengths) to suggest that with time he will win here. That time is not on Saturday. Projected odds 5-1.
