Supreme Soul preps for Diamond Mile

KINGSTON, Jamaica - After a disappointing run in the recent iCool Juice Drink Superstakes, three-year-old chestnut colt Supreme Soul returns to take on rivals in the $1.15-million Fontainbleu Trophy feature at Caymanas Park today.
Supreme Soul (Soul Warrior – Beware) came into the Superstakes on October 6, 2019 on the back of eight consecutive victories, including the Triple Crown, but the Anthony Nunes trainee failed to figure at any stage of the race.
He came home in sixth place, 17 lengths behind She’s A Maneater in the seven-horse field going 10 furlongs (2,000m). Supreme Soul has less quality to confront here going 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m) today, and can rebound with a win.
Without a doubt, he has the class and is a talented runner, and despite the top weight of 57.0kgs (126lb) he is expected to win.
The Fontainbleu Trophy, an Open Allowance event for three-year-olds and upward, is the fifth event on the 10-race card with a post time of 2:15 pm. First race is at noon.
Supreme Soul should not have things his own way as he is expected to get some challenge from the likes of stable companions Fayrouz, Dontae and Houdini’s Magic, as well as from Superluminal from the barn of Ian Parsard. The others — Bruce Wayne and My Sister — are in the race to make sure it is run.
Fayrouz finished in third position behind Stranger Danger in the Invitational Mile on last and should run another pleasing race here. And despite Houdini’s Magic’s poor effort in the Invitational Mile where he finished in fifth place, he should have things easier this time around and could surprise.
Superluminal is a hard-knocking runner who continues to show up in races with impressive runs. After a fighting win in the Owen Silvera Memorial Cup over one mile (1,600m) on July 27, Superluminal then showed up in the Prime Minister’s Stakes and came home in second position behind Bigdaddykool going 2,000m. Superluminal ran second again, this time to Supreme Soul in the Mark My Word Trophy over 9 furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) on September 21. Although facing Supreme Soul here again, Superluminal is at home here and could lead home rivals.
Also on the day are the Heroes’ Day Stakes Trophy over 1,600m, the Abbie Grannum Memorial Cup over 1,400m, and the Norman Manley Memorial Cup over 5 furlongs (1,000m) on the round course.
The Heroes’ Day Stakes Trophy should see Royal Aviator, Innovator, She’s Symbolic, and Kalahari fighting out the finish. In the Abbie Grannum, first-time starter Royal Approach is expected to make a winning start, while Hologram Shadow should lead home rivals in the Normal Manley Memorial Cup.
