KINGSTON, Jamaica – After four consistent efforts, Hedge Craft, a three-year-old dark bay colt sired by Hedge Fund and out of Aretha, achieved his first win under the guidance of trainer Welsh Soutar and jockey Ruja Lahoe.
This victory took place in a three-year-old maiden event covering seven furlongs.
As expected, Hedge Craft initially continued his bad habit of breaking slowly, lagging significantly behind his rivals.
However, thanks to Lahoe's patience, the colt gradually gained momentum while racing along the inside rails.
By the time the leaders approached the final stretch under skillful guidance, Hedge Craft was ready for an impressive surge. He succeeded with ease, winning by 3 ½ lengths in a time of 1:30.0.
Sweet Victory claimed second place, followed by Princess Talise (ridden by Dane Dawkins) in third.
Hedge Craft is definitely one to follow, especially over seven furlongs and upwards.
