KINGSTON, Jamaica – The USA bred Summer Sun after being interfered with in the early part of the race which forced his rider, apprentice Raddesh Roman to drop back to almost last in the field of 14 before going on the wide outside and turning way wide at the top of the straight and had enough to conjure a blistering stretch run to win the 11th and final race on the interesting Saturday card at the Park.
Summer Sun trained by Wayne DaCosta started as the 4-5 favourite in the seven-furlong Overnight event.
Madam Secretary (Anthony Thomas) also slowly out rallied to take over the lead - sprinting clear with just about four furlongs to go.
At this stage, Roman went about 14-wide entering the straight and then started to motor, moving briskly across the sand to get within striking distance of the leader with about ½ a furlong left.
Then it was all Summer Sun, the importee went by all rivals to win by 1 ½ lengths in a final time of 1:26.2.
Second went to another foreigner My Elle Belle (Oneil Mullings) with the always dogged Wartime (Javaniel Patterson) third.
The winning time was 1:26.2.
