KINGSTON, Jamaica – After battling with injuries Summer Sun returned to winning ways following a break of 119 days in the Caymanas Saturday (August 14) first.

Trained by Johnny Wilmot with Phillip Parchment in the saddle, the imported five-year-old chestnut horse earned his seventh career win for the first time in the claiming ranks (three-year-old and upwards) $450,000 - $400,000 at 7 ½ furlongs.

Summer Sun was the last away from the gates as Diligent (Dane Nelson) set off to set the early fractions. Parchment quickly regrouped on Summer Sun and made significant progress on the inside rails and was soon challenging for the lead after three furlongs were completed.

Diligent held firm as Summer Sun bided his time and when they entered the straight locked it was over and done with for the rest. Summer Sun won by 8 ½ lengths over Diligent with Killer Bee (Roger Hewitt) third.
