KINGSTON, Jamaica The 2019 Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association Yearling Sale takes place on Sunday, November 10 2019 at Caymanas Park. As a preview to this major sale, Quickgallop.com presents features on some of the stud farms to be represented at the sale. First up is Paradise at Spring Vallage.
HISTORY
Paradise at Spring Village has been in operation since 2002. The farm began with a handful of mares housed at McCook’s Pen, St Catherine. Approximately 30 acres of pasture were developed, mares were sent for mating to larger stud farms and the vast majority of the offspring were sold each year in the TOBA yearling sale.
In 2014, the operation was relocated to Spring Village, just outside Old Harbour, St Catherine, a greenfield site, with infrastructure developed to include stallion houses, feeding sheds, stalls and a variety of pastures/paddocks. Today the operation has approximately 80 acres of fully developed pastures of primarily Pangola grass, with a mix of Bahama, Guinea and Star grass.
HORSE INVENTORY
Two stallions Bern Identity and Key To Power. Twenty-five resident mares owned by Paradise. Ten resident mares owned by third party clients. Total head count varies between 60 and 80 depending on time of year (foaling season versus when yearling leave the farm). The vast majority of mares are imported from the USA, from purchases mainly from the Kentucky Breeding Stock Sales in November and January each year. This has been supplemented by purchases of mares from the OBS Sales in Ocala, Florida.
THE STALLIONS
Bern Identity (Bernstein — Maddalena)
One of the top racing performers ever to stand in Jamaica with earning approaching US$1 million from only 13 starts. Grade Two winner and multiple graded stakes placed who competed with top horses in his time including Goldencents. Bern Identity beat horses such as Overanalyze, Itsmyluckyday, Hightail, My Lute and Strapping Groom.
High performance two-year-old who was able to race late into his four-year old career — his race record is 13 starts, six wins, three second, and three third place finishes. A solid dirt performer. Hails from the mighty Storm Cat line.
Key To Power (A.P. Indy - Exotic Wood)
Solid performer who earned over US$400,000 — with 12 wins from 39 starts spanning a career from a three-year-old to when he was seven. A stakes winner, and son of the renowned A.P. Indy, this tough and sound racer is deemed as a good stallion prospect for Jamaica.

Most of the mares are young, with offspring yet to race. We have owned mares such as:
- Jamaican Dream (in partnership with Richard Azan) — producer of Boy Wonder. Jamaican Dream died this year.
- Thanatos — produced Royal Command ( 3rd in Jamaica Derby to Miracle Man )
