KINGSTON, Jamaica – After coming close several times in his five-race career Regal and Royal, a three-year-old bay colt by Bold Warrior – Wap was able to shed the maiden tag in convincing fashion in the Caymanas Saturday eighth.
Ridden by top apprentice Oshane Nugent for trainer Gary Griffiths, Regal and Royal raced in mid-pack throughout as the headlines were burnt by the duo of King’s Magician (Linton Steadman) and Will At War (Dane Nelson).
Biding his time while showing due patience, Nugent started to urge Regal And Royal along leaving the four-furlong point in the contest as War At Will and King’s Magician continued their rivalry.
With three furlongs to go War At Will took over and entered the straight with the lead but by then Regal And Bold got going as the inside rails opened up for him.
After getting into top gear, Regal and Royal went on to win by 2 ¼ lengths over War At Will with Hilly’s
