KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Prince Consort Stakes for three-year-old colts and geldings contesting seven furlongs represents one of the major preparation races for the upcoming Classic races. The Prince Consort unfolds on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Caymanas Park.

The race this year has attracted nine starters led by two-year-old champion Further and Beyond who will be making his seasonal entry.

Of the lot of nine starters only two Further and Beyond and his stable companion Calculus. have won two or more races.

The rest, Moneyman, Bern Notice, T Brady, Daddy Jones, Billy Whizz, Johncrowjeff, and Curlin’s Affair are all at the non-winners of two-level and are therefore not given any reasonable chance of coming out victorious in this one.

Of the aforementioned non-winners of two horses, Daddy Jones is a possible one to watch.

Daddy Jones, a half-brother of Mahogany has raced three times, and each time he has run green but after his win on March 13, while running across the track, he has been developing on the exercise track with clockers taking notice. It might be too early for Daddy Jones to win on Thursday but with the Classic races almost six weeks later than normal, he has to be watched for future reference.

Calculus won the Sir Howard (six furlongs) on March 14 after a late surge. He seems to be one just waiting on the longer distances and with a furlong longer to go in the Prince Consort makes him a dangerous contender.

But now Calculus faces Further and Beyond winner of the one-mile Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes last December. Yes, it might well be Further and Beyond first race this season but he has been well prepared for this one and is difficult to oppose.

Fresh, rested, and talented Further and Beyond is the firm choice.
